Hello dear friends. The world of high technologies is
rapidly developing. Computer technologies are rapidly developing, and with
them, applications and programs for these computers. Applications and programs
began to consume system resources and RAM several times more than in previous
years, when 64 or 128 MB was enough (for today, in my opinion, the minimum
required amount of memory for a computer is 1 GB of memory). For example, the
browser Mozilla Firefox since version 4 began to consume several times more RAM
than before. In addition, almost all sites began to use in huge quantities all
kinds of flash banners, which also consume not a small amount of RAM on your
computer. In this article I want to tell you briefly about what exactly RAM is
- RAM in general and its operating principle.
What is RAM?
RAM - random access memory or RAM or operative. In
English, RAM is Random Access Memory, which means a random access memory. RAM
is inherently a memory for temporary storage of information about running programs,
services and processes. With the help of RAM, communication is made between the
processor and hard disks (HDD), as well as any external devices. Any program is
known to be executed directly in the processor of the system, and program files
are located in the memory of hard disks. Before this program is executed, it is
necessary that its executable files get into the processor. This is exactly
what RAM is doing. It stores the files of all programs and applications
currently running. When you exit the program, all of its files from the RAM are
also deleted. The amount of RAM depends on how many application files it can
store in its memory. The data transfer rate of hard disks is negligible
compared to the processing speed of the processor, therefore for data reading
it is necessary to use the services of a kind of intermediary between the
processor and the disk drive, whose role is performed by the operative memory.
When there is a shortage of RAM, the speed of the computer is noticeably
reduced and just in such cases the so-called special paging file is used,
otherwise the cache memory. It stores the most frequently used information.
Thus, this information does not have to be transferred from the disk drives to
the processor again with the help of RAM, which ensures the overall system
performance.
RAM is an energy-dependent component, i.e. As soon as
the current stops flowing to RAM, all information from the memory is
automatically erased. RAM consists of cells in which information is stored.
With each new entry in the cell, the previous information is automatically
erased and new information is written. Thus, the more memory capacity of RAM,
the more such cells, and therefore more information can store RAM without
overwriting and without using a paging file, which reduces the time of delivery
of information to the processor, thereby increasing system performance.
It's worth mentioning that the cache memory is
essentially super-fast memory, but unfortunately it does not fit large memory
arrays and therefore you have to use RAM.
Finally:
Physically, RAM is circuits and chips that form
modules. Modules usually connect to the motherboard. And how they connect
correctly you will learn from the following articles on the site. Therefore,

Bye!
