Teacher: Good afternoon my
dear boys, girls and guests of our lesson. Do you know what date is it today?
Pupils: The 31st of October.
Teacher: You’re right. It’s the 31st
of October and it is Halloween. And our lesson today is called «Halloween
Party». Today we are going to speak about this holiday, to recite poems, to
perform a play about Halloween and to play funny games. You know in the USA
this holiday is called « the Day of All Hallows » (День всех святых). According to
the legend on this day all spirits come to the Earth. People usually tell each
other different horror stories, male lanterns and wear mystic costumes of
devils, witches and vampires. Nowadays this holiday is celebrated in Russian
too. Do you want to have a Halloween Party?
Pupils: Yes!
Teacher: Well, our first
game today is called «Haunted House». Do you know what means the phrase
«Haunted House»?
Pupils: Yes/No.
Teacher: There is a legend
about a house where a lot of ghosts and other scary things live. This house is
called «Haunted House». Look at the blackboard, please. Here is the Haunted
House. Can you find all the inhabitants of the house? You have five minutes.
There are 10 inhabitants here. Try to find them.
Haunted House»
Words:
Ghost -привидение
Skeleton -скелет
Vampire -вампир
Goblin –
Teacher: Well, let’s check how words you
have founded. That’s very good. But do you know the translation of these
worlds?
Good. And now- the
next task. ill give you ten cards with the description of the inhabitants of
the Haunted House. Your task is to match the inhabitants and description. Let’s
work in groups of four.
Description:
It is a small, dwarfish creature
specializing in stealing children and substituting fake ones in their place.
It’s a very malicious being. (elf)
It is a disembodied spirit. It is
the sole of a dead person and appearing a visible form or otherwise making its
presence known to humans. (ghost)
It is a mischievous, ugly spirit
often conjured up by rogues (goblin) (means «noisy ghost») It is a
sprint who makes its presence by various noises. (poltergeist)
It is a man or a woman who
practices magic and has dealing with the devil. (witch)
It acts as a slave to the person
who reanimated it. (zombie)
It is a man who can become a wolf
at midnight. (werewolf)
It is a creature that’s feeds on
blood. (vampire)
It is the chief spirit of evil and
enemy of God, often represented as the ruler of hell and often depicted as a
human figure with horns, cloven hoofs and tail. (devil)
It is a creature which reminds a human but
doesn’t have skin, only human bones. (skeleton)
Teacher: So, let’s check. I’ll
name you an inhabitant and you’ll read me your description.
Teacher: Well, now we know
all the inhabitants of the Haunted House. Many people believe in ghosts and
other scary things. They even make poems about them. Do you know some poems
about Halloween?
Five little pumpkins
Five little pumpkins
Sitting on a gate
The first one said,
«My it’s getting late!»
The second one said,
«There are witches in the air!»
The third one said,
«Good folk, beware!»
The fourth one said,
«Well run and run!»
The fifth one said,
«Let’s have some fun!»
«WOOOOOOOH», went the wind,
And OUT went the light;
And the five little pumpkins
Rolled out of sight!
***
If the moon shines
On the black pines,
And an owl flies,
And a ghost cries,
And the hairs rise
On the back of your neck-
That its – Halloween!
If you look quick
At the moon-slick
On the black air
And what goes there
Rides a broom-stick,
And if things pick
At the back of your neck
You know what I mean-
That its- Halloween!
Teacher: Very good. Leys
applaud for our reciters.
Lanterns »
Teacher: You have just listened
to the very interesting poem about five little pumpkins. But why do we speak
about pumpkins on Halloween? Do you know what the symbol of Halloween is? What
do mane people make to decorate their homes for Halloween is? (Lanterns)
What material do we need for our lanterns?
(Some pumpkins, knives and candles). So, let’s make some lanterns to decorate our classroom.
“Spookey- Spookey”, “Trick or treat?
Give me something good to eat”, “Knock knock, trick or treat? Who
are you?” «Can you make a happy face?» )
Teacher: So, now we know a
lot about Halloween and our classroom is decorated with Halloween lanterns. And
now let’s play and guess the riddles:
1. Out of the
graveyard
Filled with
stones,
No hair or skin,
I’m nothing but
bones.
What am I? (Skeleton)
2. My hat is
black,
My face is green,
My laugh is mean.
I ride a broom
On Halloween.
Who am I? (Witch)
3. My door is
gone.
My windows
cracked.
Ghosts float
though walls
And then float
back.
You hear strange
noises:
Bam, bang, and
whack! (Haunted House)
4. I like to stay
Just out of sight.
If you see me,
I might be white.
I float through
houses
In the black of
night. (Ghost)
5. I grew on a
vine,
Right on the
ground. I have a big smile,
My face is round.
(Lantern)
6. The shadows
chase the sun away.
The stars come out
you dance and play.
I’m at the end of
another day. (Night)
7. I fly at night,
I hunt by sound,
I live in a cave,
And sleep upside
down.
People are scared,
They shouldn’t be.
I eat mice and
bugs.
Please, don’t hurt
me. (Owl)
Teacher: Well, our party
comes to the end and I offer you to play some funny games.
2. «Key»
3. «Witch»
Teacher: Well, our party is
over. It was very interesting and I would like to say thank you for all
participants of the lesson and, of course, to our guests. Thank you!
