Today we have a special lesson. We have some guests! Let’s
greet them! I hope they will enjoy your work! Today we are going not only
study, but play a little bit. That’s why you were divided you into 3 groups.
Your home task was to name your team and make up motto according to the topic
we have spoken -“Ecology”. Look at these tables. Every team has the name. Can
you introduce and put your name down.
Thank you! It was fantastic!
During this lesson you will get points, if you work hard.
If you have many balls in the end of our lesson you will get good and
excellent marks.
So, let’s start!
Look at the screen! What associations come into your mind,
when you hear the word environment.
You are right! The word “environment” has different
definitions. I’d like to tell you some of them.
The word environment means simply what is around
us.
Environment -
the land, water, and air that people, animals, and plants
live in
Nowadays people understand how important it is to solve
the environmental problems that endanger people’s lives. What’s happening now
to our Earth? What problems do we have?
You are absolutely right! Let’s look at the screen!
So many problems. But today we are going to speak about
the most serious environmental problems and try to find the ways to save our
Earth!
I’ll give cards with the text. You task is to read the
text, understand the problem and find the ways which can solve this problem.
You have 4 min to do this task!
Ok, it’s time! Let’s check!
The first team you are welcome! Read the text!
Well done! You are absolutely right and each team gets 3
points for their work!
Let’s answer the question to check your understanding.
Questions
значком «produced from recycled»
You’re hungry, so you buy a packet of crisps. You eat the
crisps and throw the packet. No problem, right? Wrong!
What happens to garbage when we leave it outside? It takes
a long time for most of it to disappear. How long litter lasts?
Today you will try to find out!
I have some rubbish: a glass bottle, a plastic bag, a
newspaper, a banana peel, a traffic ticket, a woolen sock, a wooden stake, a
wax paper cup, a painted wooden stake, a tin can, a plastic bottle, a glass
container! Think a little bit and match the litter with the card of time.
Answers:
a glass bottle – 1 million years, a plastic bag – 10-20
years, a newspaper – 6 months, a banana peel – 2-5 weeks, a traffic ticket –
1 month, a woolen sock – 1 year, a wooden stake – 4 years, a wax paper cup –
5 years, a painted wooden stake – 13 years, a tin can – 100 years, a plastic
bottle – up to 500 years, a glass container – forever
What can we do to solve this problem?
We can all do our bit to help solve the problem by
remembering the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.
REDUCE. We’ve all got to try to reduce the amount of
rubbish we throw away. We can do that by buying unpackaged goods, like fruit
and vegetables, rather than goods which are wrapped and packaged in plastic.
The less that's thrown away, the more we help the environment.
REUSE. Try to use things as many times as possible before
you throw them away. For example, you're given some plastic bags at the
supermarket to carry your food home in. Do you use them again? Most people
don't. It would be much better for the environment if they did. Your kids
have grown out of their old clothes. Don't just put them in the bin - think
about giving them to charity. Somebody probably wants them.
RECYCLE. Glass, paper, plastic – they can all be recycled.
Recycling cuts down the waste going to landfill sites
and also means factories need to produce fewer new bottles and packets and
paper. That means there's less pollution going into the atmosphere from the
factories. It also leads to fewer trees being cut down to make paper.
So, let’s sum up. What can we do to solve the problem?
How do you understand “reduce”?
Why should people use things once again?
What is the aim of recycling?
Now, let’s relax.
Close your eyes and relax your entire
body.... Take a slow, deep breath...now exhale with a slight sigh. Take another slow breath... and exhale. Now think of a place
that is special to you.... It might be in your backyard or in your neighborhood, or a place
you go on holiday every
year.... It is a place where you can relax and think and where you enjoy being.... Think
about the smells of that place...the
sounds you hear...the things you see around you.... Pay attention to how you feel in your special
place.... Notice what's around
you...there may be trees, a lake or ocean, people, mountains.... Pay particular attention
to whether or not there is any water in your special place.... Now imagine that your
special place changes —
if your place has water in it, imagine that all of a sudden the water is completely gone. If your special
place has no water, imagine that it now has lots and lots of water....
Imagine what your special place is like now — what sounds do you hear?.... What do you see around you?.... Think about how your
special place looks now and remember what you see and feel.... When you are ready, open your eyes.
What was your special place like
with and without water? How did you feel when your special place was changed?
Suppose you had the
power you choose which way to keep your special place — either with water or without water.
Do you think most people
have a special place that they care about? How might this affect the decisions we make?
Was your special place clean? Was there any rubbish?
No, of course, no!
How
green are you?»
организации, осуществляющие деятельность в области охраны окружающей среды;
среды;
решении вопросов охраны природы;
организации с заявлениями, касающимися охраны окружающей среды;
деятельности;
Ok! Very good! All
slides have the note – “Think globally, Act locally” How do you understand
it?
You are right! So, what problems do we have nowadays? How
can we solve them?
Right! How you can help our planet?
Nice work! I hope you will think globally and act locally!
Your home work will be to find out the information about
any organization which protects our nature. You can do your homework either
in English or in Russian. I’ll give you cards with your home task!
In conclusion, I believe that all of us must do our best
to be green and as environmentally friendly as possible. The whole future of
the planet is in our hands. That’s why I’d like to present you the pot with
plant and it will be the first step to adopt a piece of the earth! Thank you
for the lesson. It was interesting for me. Do you like the lesson?
I hope you’ll use the information you have got today! Thanks,
the lesson is over. See you later!
