Theme: Let’s review and remember. Vocabulary and Grammar


Type of the lesson: Competition


Aims: a) students consolidate the vocabulary and grammar

b) students review some interesting facts from the texts: “Gulliver’s Travels” and “The Adventure of Tom Sawyer”

c) student’s develop their language skills: speaking, listening, writing

d) student’s develop their memory and social skills (work in group)


Necessary material: cards, sheets of paper and pencils


Procedure


I. Organization moment


1) Greeting: Good afternoon, students, Glad to see you. How are you?


2) Setting the aims: Today we are going to play. This game will show us the results of our work. Now listen to the rules of the game.


The rule: You are divided into 2 groups. On the Blackboard you can see a table with themes. It means that every theme has questions and every question has a mark.

If you choose number “5” – it means that if you give right answer, your group will get 5 points and you will get a card. But if you make a mistake the opposite group has a chance to give their answer and to get a point or more.

If everything is clear, let’s start and I wish you good luck.

Teacher: The 1st group, please, choose the theme and mark


Group 1: We choose “Vocabulary 5”


Teacher: Listen the task: Translate the sentences……………………………………………….

Teacher: Good for you. You have “5”. Ok. The 2nd group, choose the theme and mark. All of you ought to be attentive


Group 2: We choose “Grammar 5”

Teacher: One of you has to go to the blackboard and write down the reported speech (card)


Teacher: Well I can see you do not know how to remake some sentences. May be the 1st group will able to help.

Teacher: Your task is to retell the passage “How Gulliver found himself in the Land of Lilliputians”. Please, you are welcome.

Teacher: Excellent. You have 4. The second group, please, it is your turn to play


Group 2: We would like to choose “The Adventure of Tom Sawyer 3”


Teacher: Ok. It’s not difficult task. You have to make a translation of some words.


Group 2: Students’ answers


Teacher: Very well. But now it’s the turn of the 1st group to make their choice. Please.


Group 1: We are going to choose “The Adventure of Tom Sawyer 5”


Teacher: Good way. Your task is to retell the story


Teacher: I enjoyed listening your retelling and you get your points. Next group, please, choose

your way to get points


Group 2: We want to choose “Grammar 4”


Teacher: Ok. Good way. Try to avoid mistakes, because it is “Sequence of Tenses”. Be very attentive and translate the sentences as correctly as you can.

Bravo! You are absolutely right


Group 1: We are going to chose “Grammar 3”


Teacher: Listen the sentences and make a translation. It’s “Clauses of Time and Conditions” + Make smb. do smth.

Teacher: And now it is a good time for group number 2. Make your choice

  2. What was the profession of Gulliver? (a ship’s surgeon)

  3. Who was the Gulliver’s enemy (The Dwarf)

  4. How did Gulliver help to Lilliputians to win a victory in a war? (With the help of 50 hooks Gulliver sized the enemy’s ships and began to pull them)

How did Gulliver find himself in the land of Lilliput


Key: Lemuel G. found himself in the land of Lilliputian after the shipwreck. The people who lived there were very small. They called Gulliver the Great Man-mountain and thought that he was dangerous: he was so big in size that he could destroy their city. But Gulliver soon won the hearts of Lilliputians because of his good behavior, clever talks, quiet and gentle manners and wishes to help them.

5” – Retell the passage “The 1st meeting with Becky Thatcher”

Key: As Tom was once passing by the house, where judge Thatcher lived, he saw a new girl in the garden, a lovely little girl with blue eyes and yellow hair. Tom looked at the new beautiful girl with delight. But when he saw that the beautiful girl had noticed him, he pretended he did not know she was present, and began to show off in all sorts of boyish ways: he stood on his hands, he picked up a straw and began to balance it on his nose, which was not an easy thing to do.


4” – Definitions of the words from the text

Translate:

Описание:

Урок-игра. Можно использовать как дополнительный материал к домашнему чтению.

Класс делится на две команды и урок проходит в виде соревнования. Дети выбирают номер, а под каждым номером содержится вопрос о прочитанной книге. За выполнение данного задания начисляются баллы. Побеждает тот,у кого высокий балл.
